During the time of the Blood Speakers, the Empire banded together to defeat the foul necromancer Iuchiban and his army of undead, stolen from the graves of the empire. Many samurai found their ancestors' graves desecrated as the remains of their kin were brought to life to battle against the Empire. And it only made the dishonor worse that the clans had to kill their own ancestors in order to prevail. Nearly the whole of Rokugan came to gether to defeat Iuchiban, and bind his blackened soul away for eternity.

    Nearly.

Asahina Yajinden was the lieutenant of Iuchiban. It was he who created the four Bloodswords, some of the most powerful magical swords known, and all twisted with evil. It was Yajinden who led Iuchiban's army of zombies against Otosan Uichi.

In the end, Asahina Yajinden was captured by his own pacafistic family, and because of their views, they would not kill him. Instead, Yajinden had his mind erased and spent the rest of his life as a gardener in the Imperial City.

His family was not so lucky. The Clans made sure that all of Yajinden's relatives were hunted down and killed.

    But they missed one.

Yajinden had an infant son by a geisha, and he kept the child hidden from everyone. He feared that if Iuchiban was successful, the necromancer would fear his son as a threat to his power, and that if he failed, the rest of the Empire would be sure all of his family were dead.

In the aftermath of the battle against the sorcerer, the land was in chaos, and orphans were everywhere. The geisha took this opportunity to give Yajinden's infant son to the Asahina, claiming that he was the son of an Asahina that was killed in the battle. The kami confirmed for the Asahina that she spoke the truth, so they took the Blood Speaker's son and raised him.

And that is who your grandfather's grandfather's grandfather's grandfather's grandfather's grandfather's father truy was. It does not matter that it was 600 years ago, you are the direct descendant of one of the most foul sorcerers that ever lived. You spend each night praying that the Empire will never find out.
