My L5R Campaign

The following needs there to be a player character with some sort of disfigurement (perhaps due to Bad Fortune, Bad Health, or Permanant Wound) that is theoretically removable, although the Rokugani doctors are unable to do so (the evil eye or some sort of birthmark would be perfect). And although in this the peasant dances, be somewhat kind to your players and change it to sing or plays an instrument if your player's character has one of these skills but not dance.

Challenge

The characters hear of a nearby peasant who had a disfigurement similar to the one player character. The man claims that a group of oni removed it for him.

Finding the man and questioning him, he tells the characters that he was collecting firewood nearby when he was surprised by a group of oni. Attempting to bargain for his life, the man began to dance, and the oni actually enjoyed it, asking him to come back again a week later. Fearing for his life, the man agreed, then the oni disappeared, along with his disfigurement.

Since then, the man has been telling everyone of the benevolent oni who removed his scar.

Focus

It has been a week, and the man is supposed to return to the oni again tonight. Still being afraid of a group of oni, he does not want to go.

However, the character looks enough like the man that he might pass as him ot a group of oni. Does he attempt to go and entertain the benevolent oni in hopes that they will remove his scar as well?

Strike

The oni are not benevolent at all, merely uncultured. When the man promised to return, they decided that they needed some sort of guarantee. The oni believed that the man's disfigurement was a sign of good fortune, not bad, so they took it as a pledge from him.

If the character does not perform well enough, do the oni attack, or merely "return" the pledge and tell him to leave, doubling his ill fortune? If he performs well, do they kindly remove his scar, or do they return the pledge in thanks for another good performance?
